Ahrefs Review for Small Agencies
Ahrefs starts at $29 a month, but every full plan includes just one user. We verify the 2026 prices, seat add-ons and keyword limits for small agencies.
Updated Verified against vendor pricing 11 October 2026
The short answer
Ahrefs Starter is $29 a month, Lite is $129 a month or $108 a month billed annually, Standard is $249 or $208, Advanced is $449 or $374, and Enterprise is $1,499 with an annual commitment. Every full plan includes only one user, so seats are the real cost for an agency, at $40 to $100 per additional user.
| If you need | Choose |
|---|---|
| The cheapest paid Ahrefs tier | Starter at $29 per month, whose limits Ahrefs does not publish |
| One operator with a modest keyword set | Lite at $108 per month billed annually, with 750 tracked keywords |
| A team of three | Budget for seats: Lite permits only two additional users |
| A team above three | Standard at $208 per month billed annually, with up to five additional users |
| Unlimited verified projects | Any full plan, because verified ownership is unlimited from Lite upward |
| A five-year performance history | Advanced, because Lite keeps six months and Standard two years |
| More than ten users | Enterprise, at $1,499 per month with an annual commitment and seats at $100 each |

Overview
Ahrefs is a strong platform priced for a single operator, and that is the problem for an agency. Every full plan from Lite to Advanced includes exactly one user. Seats are then sold on top, at $40 a month on Lite, $60 on Standard and $80 on Advanced, and each tier caps how many you may add. A four-person agency therefore cannot simply buy four seats. It has to move up a plan, and then pay again for each colleague.
The price list itself is simple, and Ahrefs is unusually blunt about it: the page states "Pay annually, save up to 17 per cent" and the FAQ states "We never run discounts." So the annual figure is the real price of the product rather than a temporary promotion, which makes it easier to budget than vendors that alternate between list prices and introductory offers.
This Ahrefs review is written for small agencies, consultancies and in-house teams. Every price, seat rule and limit below was read from Ahrefs' own pricing page and recorded on 2026-10-11. Where Ahrefs does not publish a figure, this review says so rather than filling the gap. Comparison figures for Moz and Semrush come from our Moz Pro review and Semrush alternatives guide.

What Ahrefs is
Ahrefs is a search marketing platform built around a large backlink index, with a site explorer, keyword explorer, site audit, rank tracker and reporting. For an agency, three of its features decide the purchase rather than the backlink index itself.
Projects are split by ownership. Every full plan allows a limited number of projects where ownership is not verified, 5 on Lite, 20 on Standard, 50 on Advanced and 100 on Enterprise, and unlimited projects where ownership is verified. That distinction matters commercially: an agency that verifies its client domains is not capped in the same way as one that tracks competitor domains.
Historical data is tiered by depth. Lite keeps six months of performance history, Standard two years, Advanced five years and Enterprise unlimited. A consultant producing year-on-year client reporting can find two years is the practical minimum.
Rank tracking updates weekly on the full plans. That is worth knowing if a client expects daily movement.
Ahrefs also publishes an MCP server with a maximum rows per request that scales by tier, 100 on Lite, 250 on Standard, 500 on Advanced and unlimited on Enterprise, alongside Ahrefs Connect API units of 200,000, 800,000 and 2 million. An agency wiring the platform into an assistant or a reporting pipeline should treat those allowances as part of the plan price rather than a footnote.
Ahrefs pricing
All figures are Ahrefs' own display on 2026-10-11. The annual column is the standing annual-billing figure, described by Ahrefs as saving up to 17 per cent, not a promotional rate.
| Plan | Monthly price | Price billed annually | Effective monthly |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $29 | Not published | Not published |
| Lite | $129 | $1,290 a year | $108 |
| Standard | $249 | $2,490 a year | $208 |
| Advanced | $449 | $4,490 a year | $374 |
| Enterprise | $1,499 | $14,990 a year | Not published |
The same plans carry these limits.
| Plan | Included users | Additional users | Tracked keywords | Crawl credits |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | Not published | Not published | Not published | Not published |
| Lite | 1 | Up to 2 at $40 a month each | 750 | 100,000 a month |
| Standard | 1 | Up to 5 at $60 a month each | 2,000 | 500,000 a month |
| Advanced | 1 | Up to 10 at $80 a month each | 5,000 | 1,500,000 a month |
| Enterprise | From 3 | Unlimited at $100 a month each | From 10,000 | From 5,000,000 a month |
Two rows need reading carefully.
Starter is the entry price and the least documented plan. At $29 a month it is the cheapest way into Ahrefs, but the pricing page shows no annual price and no numeric project, keyword or credit limit for it. A buyer relying on that card is choosing on price alone. Where the comparison table gives a figure for Starter, use it; where it does not, treat the plan as unverified rather than assuming it matches Lite.
Enterprise keeps a separate rule set. It requires an annual commitment, starts at three included users rather than one, and its limits are stated as "from" figures, meaning they are a floor rather than a fixed ceiling.

The three plans that fit most small agencies
Cheapest way to test Ahrefs Ahrefs Starter at $29 a month, with limits Ahrefs does not publish
Best for one operator Ahrefs Lite at $108 a month billed annually, with 750 tracked keywords
Best for a small team Ahrefs Standard at $208 a month billed annually, with up to five extra seats
The seat rule that decides the purchase
This is the part of Ahrefs that catches agencies, and it is more restrictive than the headline price suggests.
| Plan | Included users | Additional users allowed | Price per additional user | Maximum users on the plan |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lite | 1 | Up to 2 | $40 a month | 3 |
| Standard | 1 | Up to 5 | $60 a month | 6 |
| Advanced | 1 | Up to 10 | $80 a month | 11 |
| Enterprise | From 3 | Unlimited | $100 a month | No stated cap |
Lite cannot serve a team of four. Its ceiling is three users, one included and two add-ons. An agency with four people who need access has to buy Standard whether or not it needs Standard's keyword allowance or two-year history, and it then pays $60 a month for each of the three extra seats.
Additional users are cheaper if prepaid annually. Ahrefs publishes annual prepaid seat figures of $400 per user on Lite, $600 on Standard and $800 on Advanced, and states that additional users not prepaid are charged on a pay-as-you-go basis. Prepaying two seats on Standard is $1,200 a year against $1,440 on the monthly rate, so the annual route saves $240 per seat.
Enterprise is the only plan where seats stop being a constraint, and it is also the only plan requiring an annual commitment.
Cost per client in the five-client scenario
The scenario used across this site is five clients, one website each, one operator, annual billing and no add-ons beyond seats. Because seats here are bought on top of the plan, the table shows the plan at its base price and the total once the team is included.
| Configuration | Plan cost a month | Seats added | Total a month | Per client |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lite, solo operator | $108 | None | $108 | $21.60 |
| Lite, three users | $108 | 2 at $40 | $188 | $37.60 |
| Standard, three users | $208 | 2 at $60 | $328 | $65.60 |
| Standard, five users | $208 | 4 at $60 | $448 | $89.60 |
| Advanced, five users | $374 | 4 at $80 | $694 | $138.80 |
The arithmetic is the vendor's own published prices added together, and it changes the answer to the usual question. Ahrefs looks like a $108 a month platform and is a $328 a month platform for a three-person agency, because Standard is the first tier that permits three extra people on top of the single included user.
For context from the same category on the same annual basis, Moz Pro Standard is $79 a month and Semrush's SEO plan is $117.33. Moz publishes additional seats at $49 a month on any plan level, so a three-user Moz Standard configuration is $177 a month before site limits, which is cheaper than the equivalent Ahrefs Lite setup at $188, although Moz Standard covers only three sites while Ahrefs Lite carries unlimited verified-ownership projects. The full cost comparison is in our SEO software cost guide.
Where Ahrefs is strong
The annual price is the real price. Ahrefs states that it never runs discounts, so the annual figure does not disappear after a promotional period. That is unusual in this category and it makes budgeting honest.
Verified-ownership projects are unlimited from Lite upward. An agency that verifies client domains is not penalised for taking on more clients, which is the single most agency-friendly term on the page.
There is no minimum term on the paid plans. The page states there are no contracts or setup fees and that a subscriber can switch or cancel at any time. Only Enterprise requires an annual commitment.
The limits scale in a readable way. Tracked keywords run 750, 2,000 and 5,000; export rows 500,000, 1.5 million and 4 million a month; maximum pages per project 25,000, 50,000 and 250,000. An agency can match a tier to its workload without guessing.
A free tier exists. Ahrefs Free gives website owners limited access to Site Explorer and Site Audit. Ahrefs does not publish the numeric limits of that free access, so treat it as a trial of the interface rather than a working plan.
Where Ahrefs falls short
One included user on every full plan is the weakest term in this category. Semrush and Moz both make seats an explicit add-on price, but neither starts a $249 tier with a single seat. Ahrefs does.
Lite is capped at three users. That is a hard ceiling, not a price. A fourth person forces the Standard tier and a jump from $108 to $208 a month plus seats.
The seat prices are higher than the alternatives. Lite charges $40 a month per extra user against Moz's $49 flat rate across all plans, so the comparison is close at Lite and unattractive at Advanced, where Ahrefs charges $80. For a five-person team on Advanced, that is $320 a month in seats alone on top of a $374 plan.
Starter's limits are not published. The cheapest tier is the least documented one, which makes it hard to compare honestly against Moz Starter at $49 or a Semrush entry plan.
Historical data starts at six months. That is short for an agency selling year-on-year reporting, and the two-year step costs the jump to Standard.
Our verdict
Do not buy Ahrefs for a team of four or more without pricing the seats first. The plan price is the smaller half of the bill. Run the seat arithmetic in the table above before committing, because the number that matters is the total, not the headline.
A solo consultant can justify Lite at $108 a month billed annually. It carries 750 tracked keywords, 100,000 crawl credits a month and unlimited verified-ownership projects, and it undercuts Semrush's SEO plan at $117.33 on the same annual basis.
A three-person agency should compare Moz Standard first. Moz is $79 a month plus seats at $49, which is cheaper than Ahrefs Lite plus two seats, but it covers three sites rather than unlimited verified projects. Which is cheaper depends on whether the constraint is people or websites, and that is a question only the agency can answer.
Buy Standard only when three users and two-year history are both genuinely needed. Paying for Standard purely to reach the third seat means paying $100 a month above Lite for the privilege of spending $60 a month per seat.
Consider Standard rather than Enterprise for anything under ten users. Enterprise requires an annual commitment and starts at $1,499 a month. An agency of eleven or fewer people is cheaper on Advanced with seats.
Treat Starter as an experiment, not a plan. Its published limits are thin enough that we cannot recommend it as a working agency subscription.
The figures behind this review are recorded in our pricing research, and the verification standard is in the methodology.
Frequently asked questions
How much does Ahrefs cost?
Ahrefs Starter is $29 per month. Lite is $129 a month, or $1,290 a year which displays as $108 a month. Standard is $249 a month, or $2,490 a year showing $208 a month. Advanced is $449 a month, or $4,490 a year showing $374 a month. Enterprise is $1,499 a month, or $14,990 a year, with an annual commitment required. Ahrefs states that annual billing saves up to 17 per cent and that it never runs discounts.
How many users does Ahrefs include?
Lite, Standard and Advanced each include one user, and additional users cost $40, $60 and $80 a month respectively, prepayable annually at $400, $600 and $800 per user. Lite permits up to two additional users, Standard up to five and Advanced up to ten, so the maximum user counts are three, six and eleven. Enterprise starts at three included users with unlimited additional users at $100 a month each.
Is Ahrefs good for a small agency?
It is strong on data and weak on seats. Unlimited verified-ownership projects from Lite upward suit an agency tracking client domains, and there is no minimum term on the paid plans. The obstacle is that every full plan includes one user, so a team of four must buy Standard and then pay $60 a month per extra seat. An agency should compare the total cost including seats against Moz and Semrush before choosing.
Does Ahrefs have a free plan?
Yes. Ahrefs Free gives website owners limited access to Site Explorer and Site Audit, and it is not called Webmaster Tools in the current pricing copy. Ahrefs does not publish the numeric limits of that free access, so we cannot state how many projects, keywords or crawl credits it includes, and it should be treated as a way to test the interface rather than as a working plan for client work.
Is Ahrefs cheaper than Semrush?
At entry level, no. Ahrefs Lite is $108 a month billed annually against Semrush's SEO plan at $117.33, so the plans are close and Ahrefs is marginally cheaper. Once seats are added the position changes, because Semrush publishes additional users from $45 a month while Ahrefs charges $60 on Standard and $80 on Advanced. The clearer comparison for a specific team size is in our Ahrefs vs Semrush guide.
Is Ahrefs cheaper than Moz Pro?
For one user, Moz Pro Standard is $79 a month billed yearly against Ahrefs Lite at $108, so Moz is cheaper. For three users, Moz Standard plus two seats at $49 is $177 a month against Ahrefs Lite plus two seats at $40, which is $188. Moz stays cheaper, but Moz Standard covers only three sites while Ahrefs Lite carries unlimited verified-ownership projects, so the cheaper plan is not automatically the better one.
What limits change between Ahrefs plans?
Tracked keywords run 750, 2,000 and 5,000 across Lite, Standard and Advanced. Crawl credits run 100,000, 500,000 and 1,500,000 a month. Export rows run 500,000, 1.5 million and 4 million a month. Maximum pages per project run 25,000, 50,000 and 250,000. Historical performance data runs six months, two years and five years. Unverified-ownership projects are capped at 5, 20 and 50, while verified-ownership projects are unlimited on all of them.
Does Ahrefs require a contract?
Not on the paid plans. The pricing page states there are no contracts or setup fees and that a subscriber can switch or cancel at any time, and the page displays no minimum term for Starter, Lite, Standard or Advanced. The exception is Enterprise, where the annual view states that an annual commitment is required and no annual effective monthly figure is displayed.
Does Ahrefs have an API and AI assistant access?
Yes. Ahrefs Connect API units are published at 200,000, 800,000 and 2 million a month for Lite, Standard and Advanced, with 4 million and custom limits on Enterprise. Its MCP server allows a maximum of 100, 250 and 500 rows per request on the same three plans and unlimited rows on Enterprise, which matters if an assistant is being used to pull reporting data rather than a person working in the interface.
